Original Medicare does not include outpatient prescription drug coverage. Medicare Part D Plans, offered by private insurance companies, cover these expenses.

Part D Prescription plans are regulated by Medicare. So although plan design does not vary, which drugs and how they are covered, can differ from company to company.
